Today I am working on budgets for a number of my clients, and wanted to take a moment to discuss the importance of Budget when planning your wedding or event.

The very first plan should be your budget. If many people are contributing, you need to know what your financial investment will be. Big or Small - nothing will blow a budget faster than Not Having One.

Budget Planning

That's right. Don't run out and buy a dress.... don't run out and book a venue. You must have a budget, and a plan(er) before you start signing things, or you will find yourself settling for things that aren't quite what you pictured when you dreamt of the party.

Often I meet with future brides who come to me with a budget, comfortable yet modest. They tell me that they already purchased a dress, and it cost $2,500, they booked a photographer at $3,000 and a venue at $5,000. But they never thought about how those amounts affected their budget, and their dream of XYZ reception. Or that their venue didn't include tables and chairs, or required an additional food and beverage minimum purchase (which the rental does not count towards)... This is where having a planner at the begining would be beneficial. Our staff can help set up your budget, find the perfect dress with a professional dress consultation (Couture Wedding Dress designs available as well)and make sure your vendors compare apples to apples when making a selection.

So, while I was away from the office, there was ANOTHER Royal Wedding! And again, we see the Relaxed Elegance, the Modern Sophistication with a nod to the classic beauties of days gone by.

J'Adore!

If you would like to capture these royal looks - perhaps we need to take a look at designer Romona Keveza! They premiered a dress similar to the Alexander McQueen design worn by Kate Middleton, as well as the dress pictured below - Very close to the Armani Prive worn by Charlene Wittstock as she wed Grace Kelly's son Albert. Mind you, these gowns hit the runway well in advance of either royal wedding!

The Pile Family are loaded up and heading back to where we began. In 2008 we were wed on the beach of Siesta Key, Florida. Rated the NUMBER ONE beach in the country. We will be returning to the very same beach, and taking our son for his first trip to the beautiful white sand!

I don't know what has come over me, but I have the strongest desire to create this Nostalgia laden AMERICANA weekend for the family. I'm talking about the cool whip/jello flag cake made with strawberries and blueberries

I'm thinking about fun family crafts, kids running amuck with watermelon all over their faces.... getting hosed off in the yard before they are allowed in the house again.... Am I recalling Latent Memories from my childhood? Probably... but I Can Not WAIT.

Whatever your plans for the 4th entail - be sure to make it Sparkle!
(And Be Safe! Don't drink and drive, put on sunscreen - and remember not everyone heeds that advice)

We love the story of Jennifer and Tom! Apparently, a lot of people did! They were featured in a documentary that has been shown at both Sundance and Tribecca Film Festival. And now we are honored to share their wedding with the readers of Grace Ormond Wedding Style.

Our 4th "birthday" as a company is coming up on August 1st. The week will be full of celebrations, as my dear chunky monkey turns ONE on the 4th! (I can't believe time has flown by so quickly!). With my daughter, it was easy to come up with the perfect party.... so easy, she ended up having 3 different ones in one day. (Yes, Birthdays are my absolute FAVORITE). I learned my lesson with her, as the over indulgence of cake for a one year old is a bit too much to bear.

But now I have a boy. And boy parties can be quite the challenge. I personally don't like the birthday in a box style of paper goods, as I am a planner... and I just "can't"... but for Baby Boy, I would LOVE the opportunity. See, his favorite thing right now is Jake and the Neverland Pirates, which is a brand new character on Disney - which oddly enough, they have not licensed ANY merchandise for!

So we turn to Etsy, a website I typically warn about catching "Etsy-itis" (where people do a little TOO much etsy in one event). This site was not around for my Daughter's birthday, thank goodness... we may have ended up with 5 parties!

I'm toying with Pirates.... or Monkeys (his nursery is covered with monkey murals)... but I love the high contrast of colors, and have a "look" in mind.... so who knows what we will end up with, I feel so far behind schedule - usually birthdays are planned 5 months in advance....(Again, I'm a planner... and don't expect you to do the same - but since I'm on the clock for my clients most of the time, I like to get the personal done in advance)

If you would like help with Your Birthday party dilemmas - we absolutely ADORE them! Sweet 16, Surprise Party, 40th birthdays.... parties for young and old. I'll give you my daughter as a reference - she's had some of the best parties in the history of a third grader! (Just kidding - we have other references as well!). Just imagine - you keep living your life, we do all the running around, and you get "THANKS MOM! That was AWESOME!" OR Big Big Points from your wife/girlfriend when you pull off the perfect party!

I am in love with the richness of fall. I won't lie, it is my favorite time of year. I love sweaters, and scarves.... I love pulling out my hats and wool coats... and Boots... It seems like I've gone mad, talking about putting on so many layers right now, when it is 100 degrees outside (or close...Hot is Hot, right?) - but as a planner, we never live in the season we're in - as we are designing for the seasons to come!

I just stumbled upon this luscious warm inspiration board and thought I would share. For whatever reason, Fall has been linked to rustic, barns, country, vintage... but it doesn't have to be. I love working with a couple to make the wedding about THEM, not the TREND. You should wow your guests with a wedding that is so oh so unexpected, but exactly YOU.

Gold Chrysanthemums

I don't know about you, but now I want some chocolate!

Happy Planning!

We had an amazing time last night working to put Mallory's dream day into reality at the Peabody in Little Rock. For the ceremony, we draped 1/3 of the Grand Ballroom with 16 foot White Velour theater drape.

We used every yard our vendor had, and it completely transformed the room into a glowing candlelit dream come true!

During the cocktail hour, we had an amazing crew turning the ceremony space into a perfect party, with the Rockets leading the way!

I love the Wedding Wish - a sky lantern lit while the couple lift their wishes for the new life they have just joined, while surrounded by loved ones with sparklers...
so pretty for photo and video!

Congrats Mallory and Daniel! I hope you have a blast on your honeymoon!

Thank you to Paul Viefhaus for the sneak peak from the shots he pulled from the videography taken throughout the night!

We are counting down the days until we can FINALLY share the big secret.... so be sure to keep checking back with us. We are setting up a special list for the big announcement, so if you don't think you are on it - be sure to drop a line to Laura!

This is not "NEW" news... but we just had to share it anyway!

Intoducing Megan and Adam - To be Wed October 15, 2011

We love how unique couples are, and we thoroughly enjoy creating one of a kind celebrations for our brides and grooms. We have a couple I just have to share with you!

First and foremost - Megan has inspired me to be a better Tweet-er (is that the right word?) so follow me @AllinDetails! We have had quite the time bonding in 140 characters or less over the last few months. She's working with a photographer I have known for almost half my life  professionally. Someone I truly admire and respect - so much so I have used her to capture important personal events of my own!

KES Weddings shot this engagement session of Megan and Adam

I am just so in love with it!

Personal Confession time: I am particularly fond of THIS shot, as I am slightly obsessed with photographing fields of Hay. I don't know why. I did not grow up in the country. I don't particularly find myself around them.... but I have stopped on occassion to actually pull over and take a shot or two. I know, we all have quirks. I used to love old barns and tractors.... Who is this closet field lover?

We can't wait to share photos of this couple's wedding day! Laura is gushing at the seams as it is her favorite design style.  I absolutely adore how "Vintage and fabulously Romantic" it will be!

Yes, Megan... we will work that into the modern lexicon!
